January is typically a slower time for wine events here in Chicago, but definitely circle February 27th on your calendar. That’s when the second annual River North Wine Fest takes place at Moe’s Cantina and Old Crow SmokeHouse (149-155 West Kinzie). Over thirty five wines will be available for sampling between the two adjacent locations. Time is from noon to four p.m.
Tickets are available at this site and you can use the code CHIPINOT for $20.00 off the regular price of $55.50. Additional discounts for services such as Uber, Sprig and Urban Leash also come packaged with your ticket.
Hope there’s lots of Pinot Noir available (smile). Either way, I’ll be there and I hope to meet you!
This wine came as a pleasant surprise. It has a very citrusy nose and body without the mouthfeel I get in some Chenins of candle wax or WD-40. You can read more about the wine at the Arabella website.
Also, here’s the link for Jodi Glickman’s excellent book about communicating at work, which I mention in this video. I’ve already started reading it; it may help me get promoted or at least make these videos look and sound a little more professional!
P.S.: My other wine videos are on my YouTube page; I just haven’t transferred them to this blog yet.
Hope you are tasting along with a wine evaluation grid; the one from my WSET wine class is a great one to use! Here’s a link for you to download:

Here's the pretty bar at Vintage 338. The wines are pretty to look at and to drink!
Here are two offers you might want to take advantage of this Labor Day weekend!
Petterino’s is offering “Manic Mondays” with half price bottles of wine and a special $19.95 three-course dinner. Petterino’s is located in Chicago’s Theatre District, on 150 North Dearborn. This promotion will run every Monday until further notice!
This is Petterino's, a popular pre-theatre visit for those seeing a play downtown.
Friday, September 3 through Monday, September 6, Vintage 338 will be the “featured” offer on DealADayOnline, and the offer is $15.00 for $35.00 in food and drinks. I have dined here myself and the bar is a charming addition to the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Every Monday through Wednesday, Vintage 338 features Flight Nights with flights of wine from a specific country.
Please look on my blog later today for an interview with co-owner Chris Barkulis. Enjoy your long weekend!
Many blogs also include regular audio updates called podcasts. Recently, I was interviewed on BlogTalkRadio by the very able Tiffany Crenshaw and Allison from the CareerMoxie blog. Along with their guest Brian Hamlett, President of mPower Consulting, they offered excellent advice on how to improve the reach of my blog, and include it with my resume as an effective career building tool. If you’re considering writing a blog, please check out this episode here:

and if you’re job hunting, be sure to listen to Tiffany and Allison every week. You will learn so much!
